Jeremy Brian Ulik appeared in court Monday facing charges after a hit-and-run accident that killed a 5-year-old St. Joseph boy on April 13.

The 32-year-old defendant is accused of failing to stop at a traffic collision causing injury or death.

7th District Judge Vicki Landwher set bail at $75,000 and ordered Ulik make no contact with the victim’s family. In addition, he must stay 100 feet from the family’s residence and seek additional routes that don’t interfere with the set distance. No objections were made to the judge’s ruling.

This is the first time Ulik has appeared in court after the boy was killed.

Cody Nuckolls was struck by Ulik’s SUV in St. Joseph as his mother waited across the street for his sister to get off a school bus. A criminal complaint reports Ulik believed the child was unharmed and drove away.

Ulik is facing a maximum sentence of three years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

His next court date appearance has not been set.
