Archived: 17 People Stuck in High Rising Water Near Freeport Saturday Night
Seventeen people were stuck in high water after heavy rains fell Saturday night near Freeport.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says a caller reported that she and her husband were stuck in the water at the intersection of County Roads 157 and 172. When officers got to the scene a lot vehicles were surrounded by water. A small bus with 14 passengers was trapped in the water too. The driver of the bus, 54-year-old Richard Celestine Rosen of Albany, was injured, but managed to walk out of waist-deep water to a dry area along with all the passengers. Rosen was taken to the Albany Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Sanner adds the area received a large amount of rain just before the call. There were two other roads under water because of storms. Local fire departments and Stearns County Highway Department closed the roads.
