St. Cloud State University will showcase Turkish art of women from the ancient times at the Atwood Memorial Center Art Gallery.

 

The University Program Board and College of Liberal Arts are sponsoring the exhibit that features three Turkish artists. They will explore the concept of Anatolian women from ancient times till the 19th century. Three visiting scholars from Turkey will discuss their work.  Fatma Nur Basaran, Banu Gurcum and Sinem Sanli will explain how Turkish art works through silk screen printing technique. 

 

Basaran will show Mother Goddess which focuses on Anatolian goddesses. Sanli will present Anatolian women photographed by orientalists in the 19th century. Gurcum will represent Levini’s women who were drawn by the Turkish miniature artist Levini. 

 

There will be reception for the exhibit from  3-4:30 p.m. in the Atwood Art Gallery Lounge on Tuesday. The exhibit continues until April 19th.
