A 19-year-old man from Fargo, North Dakota with an active warrant was arrested last Saturday morning after being found driving at a speed of 91 mph on I-94 near and Highway 237.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says the car was stopped heading eastbound on I-94 at around 4:22 a.m. After being pulled over, 19-year-old John Gbortu of Fargo, North Dakota gave officers the name and false date of birth of a person with a misdemeanor warrant from Clay County, Minnesota.
During the stop a deputy found a piece of paper in the man’s wallet with the name of John Papa Gbortu. Gbortu had an active warrant from Cass County, North Dakota for Flight-Escape from custody, and after further investigation officers learned that the car that Gbortu was driving had been stolen from Fargo the previous week.
Gbortu was taken to Stearns County Jail, where officers were able to identify him through a picture from the North Dakota Penitentiary. He currently faces a number of local charges in Stearns County and extradition back to North Dakota.
