Archived: First Degree Murder Charges Filed Against Gary Vogt in Alleged Shooting of Estranged Wife
A St. Joseph man has been charged with two counts of first degree attempted murder in last Saturday’s shooting incident in north St. Cloud.
66-year-old Gary Dennis Vogt was arraigned in 7th District court Tuesday and faces one count of premeditated attempted murder and a second attempted murder charge while committing a felony.
Vogt was allegedly firing a revolver at his estranged wife’s vehicle during a chase on County Road 4 just before 10 a.m. Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says Vogt rammed his vehicle into his wife’s multiple times before she lost control of her vehicle and went into the ditch.
Sanner says once in the ditch Vogt continued to fire more rounds at her vehicle before leaving the scene. She was taken to St. Cloud Hospital where medical staff found she was struck by a bullet in the back and injured on the left side of her head.
Investigators say Vogt told them right after the shooting that he "snapped" and could not take it anymore. His wife had a restraining order taken out against him on October 22nd. Witnesses told investigators Vogt was depressed about his wife leaving him.
Vogt is being held at the Stearns County Jail.
