Archived: Suspect Identified As Dennis Vogt In The Incident of Shooting His Estranged Wife Saturday Morning

A 63-year-old woman was taken to St. Cloud Hospital after being wounded in a shooting Saturday morning just prior to 10 a.m.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says the Stearns County Dispatch Center received several 9-1-1 calls which reported two vehicles chasing each other on southeast County Road 4 from County Road 2. The second driver now identified as, 66-year-old Gary Dennis Vogt of St. Joseph, rammed into the other vehicle and fired several gunshots at the vehicle.

Entering the city of St. Cloud on County Road 4, the vehicles collided again and the victim’s vehicle stopped. Dennis Vogt allegedly fired more gunshots at the first driver and left the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle was stopped by the Stearns County Deputy Sheriff near the Sauk River bridge. The deputy arrested Vogt and he was taken to St. Cloud Hospital. He is now in custody of the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. A handgun was found in the suspect’s vehicle.

The victim had one apparent gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital as well. The victim and assailant are a divorced husband and wife. The St. Cloud Police department assisted with this case.
