Archived: Suspected Drunk Driver Involved in Three Vehicle Crash South of Freeport
Three vehicles collided on County Road 12 Saturday night and the Stearns County Sheriff’s office believes the crash to be alcohol related.
Sheriff John Sanner says officers responded to a crash about 11 p.m. with injuries to three different passengers. The report says 21-year-old Joshua Liestman of Paynesville was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on County Road 12 when his vehicle crossed the center line and hit a westbound 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 23-year-old Daniel Illies from Elrosa. Illies then went on and hit a 2006 Ford F-350 driven by 19-year-old Tyler Eblen St. Martin.
Passengers in Illies and Eblen’s vehicles were taken to Centracare hospital by Melrose Ambulance. Another passenger in Illies’ car was taken to the Centracare Hospital in St. Cloud for treatment because a piece of glass got into his eyes.
Liestmen was arrested and booked in to the Stearns County Jail on charges of Criminal Vehicular Operation and DWI. The accident is under investigation as it is deemed to be alcohol related.
