A St. Cloud man is facing charges after he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole Wednesday.

The Sauk Rapids Police Department Chief Perry Beise says officers received complaints of a driver traveling the wrong way in the northbound lane of Benton Drive North around 10:30 p.m.

Beise adds officers stopped the driver, 46-year-old Dan Kipka, at the 600 block of Benton Drive North. When Kipka’s action began to get out of hand, officers used a taser on him. The taser had no effect on Kipka as he drove away from the scene.

Kipka later crashed into a utility pole on the 900 block of Benton Drive North. Officers brought him to the St. Cloud Hospital where he was later released to Benton County Jail.

The 46-year-old is now facing charges of fleeing police and careless driving.
