Archived: Airplane Forced To Make Emergency Landing Sunday On Benton County Road
A small plane experiencing mechanical problems made an emergency landing Sunday afternoon on a Benton County Road in Langola Township.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office was told a single engine plane in route to Breezy Point Resort from Mankato was undergoing mechanical problems and needed to make an emergency landing just before 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
Benton County Chief Deputy Troy Heck, says the single engine four seat plane, piloted by 52-year-old Craig Bureind of Chanhassen, made its emergency landing on 15th Avenue Northeast. The plane swerved to miss hitting a car and ended up in the ditch in the intersection of 160th Street Northeast.
There was minor damage to the planes wing after striking a telephone pole support wire. Bureind and his three passengers weren’t injured in the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the emergency landing.
