A man was struck by a train late Wednesday evening when he was following another man across the railroad crossing at 1945 North Benton Drive.

Sauk Rapids Police Chief Perry Beise says a Sante Fe Burlington Northern Freight train was traveling north when it struck 55-year-old Kevin Mitchell Olson of St. Cloud.

Beise adds that Olson and another man were walking across the railroad tracks when the crossing arm was already down and the train was near.

Olson suffered serious injuries and was treated by ambulance who took him to the St. Cloud hospital.

The speed of train was reportedly going at 57 miles per hour.
