A St. Cloud man is facing assault charges after allegedly throwing hot coffee on his wife.

St. Cloud police Sergeant Jason Burke says officers arrested 22-year-old Thomas Charles Nelson early Friday morning after responding to a domestic assault in progress where Nelson’s wife was in fear of her safety. The investigation revealed that she had hot coffee thrown on her.

The husband is currently being held in Stearns County Jail on charges of gross misdemeanor domestic assault.

Burke adds that the enhancement in charges is due to a prior domestic related conviction with the last 10 years.
