Archived: Northstar Rail Canceled Between Big Lake And Ramsey After Train Derailed
RAMSEY, Minn. (AP) – Service on the Northstar commuter rail line is cancelled after a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train derailed and blocked the tracks between Big Lake and Ramsey.
Metro Transit canceled the Northstar service early Friday after about 16 empty BNSF freight cars jumped the tracks in Ramsey about 2:15 a.m. BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says there were no injuries.
Metro Transit says limited bus service will be offered from Elk River, Ramsey, Anoka, Coon Rapids and Fridley. But, the buses can’t carry as many passengers and trips will run significantly longer.
