Archived: High Water Depths Becoming An Issue For Stearns County

Stearns County is warning residents that although the long streak of rain is done, high water concerns are not yet over.

The County says that due to the several inches of rain that were received between May 30 and June 2, lakes and rivers are continuing to rise in depth. The Sauk River is under a flood warning because the crest of the river is expected to reach 7.2 feet on Friday.

Stearns County Emergency Management reminds drivers and walkers to find an alternative route if the area is flooded. Flooded roads should be reported to the county at 320-251-4240.

For anyone who uses lakes and rivers for recreational use, caution and slower speeds are necessary to prevent shore erosion. Obstacles may also be hidden in the water.

Property owners are expected to watch their property for flood risk and take action.

Stearns County has sandbags available for purchase but does not provide them to residents for private property.
