The mayor of a central Minnesota city has resigned his post Tuesday night.

Richmond City Administrator Martin Bode says Mayor Scott Kron submitted his resignation to administration saying he was resigning due to personal and health issues. Kron’s term as mayor was set to expire in December.

Bode says council member Mike Mathiasen is temporarily holding the position of mayor during the transition period.

The city council is required to fill the open mayor position as soon as possible.

The council can either host an open to the public search or appoint someone internally.

Bode says the Richmond city council will meet Wednesday night to discuss the possibility of filling that position.
