Archived: Hawaii Man Taken To St. Cloud Hospital After Boating Accident In Platte River

One man was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital after a boat he was in capsized in the Platte River.

Benton County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Troy Heck says the sheriff’s department was called out to the river in West Langola Township Tuesday afternoon by a woman who said she had been involved in a boating accident.

The Sheriff’s office says the 58-year-old caller, Deborah Pierce of Zionsville, Indiana, was boating with her two brothers, 51-year-old Mark Bode of Lakeville and 56-year-old Craig Bode of Wailuku, Hawaii, when the boat capsized.

Pierce and her brother Mark were able to make it to shore, however, Craig was not.

Benton County deputies along with the Minnesota DNR, Royalton Fire Department, Royalton Police Department and the Rice Fire Department found Craig 1,000 feet downstream from the accident, holding on to a tree.

After attempting to throw a life jacket to him, deputies and Royalton firefighters went into the Platte River to rescue him.

Craig Bode was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. None of the boaters were wearing life jackets.
