Archived: Minnesota Fishing Opener Calls For Extra Attention To Area Traffic
The Minnesota fishing opener this weekend means busy traffic conditions, especially in northern Minnesota.
Sergeant Jesse Grabow with the Minnesota State Patrol says that the main driving concerns are drivers not paying attention, following too closely and speeding. Grabow recommends anyone pulling a trailer should follow at a distance of 500 feet, which is farther back than the three second rule.
For a safe fishing opener, Grabow encourages drivers to slow down, buckle up, drive sober and pay attention.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says this weekend’s fishing opener is open to Walleye, Sauger and Northern Pike.
