An Alaskan newlywed is in the Sherburne County Jail facing assault charges after he allegedly attacked his new bride and mother-in-law.

St. Cloud Police Sergeant Jason Burke says officers were called to the 900 block of 9th Avenue Southeast early Monday morning after receiving a call about a domestic assault.

Officers say 37-year-old Sterling Raymond Danford of Alaska had assaulted his 30-year-old wife. Police say Danford also punched his new mother-in-law after she tried to stop the incident.

The woman was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Danford is currently facing charges of domestic assault, 5th degree assault, and 3rd degree assault.
