Archived: Albany Man Indicted For First and Second Degree Murder Of Infant Son

An Albany man has been indicted by a grand jury for first degree murder and two counts of second degree murder in the death of his infant son. That indictment came down Thursday.

A Stearns County grand jury indicted 32-year-old Robert John Kaiser for first and second degree murder after the Ramsey County Medical Examiner ruled the death of Kaiser’s son as a homicide.

On August 27 Kaiser denied causing any trauma to the baby when talking to investigators.  He said the child had fallen while he was holding him. However,  the Ramsey County Medical Examiner says the death was a result traumatic brain injury which is more in line with shaking the baby.

Investigators say the child’s mother took the baby to Albany Hospital after she noticed the child seemed bit different after returning home from work. She said the baby was having difficulties breathing and had seizures. The baby was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in the Twin Cities where the child later died on September 3.

Kaiser is scheduled to make his first court appearance on October 3 before Judge William J. Cashman. Kaiser currently remains in the Stearns County Jail. If convicted of first degree murder Kaiser will serve a life sentence.

Future court dates are pending.
