Archived: Authorities Release Name of Woman Found On Mississippi River Ice Sunday

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office has released the name of the deceased woman found near the Granite City Crossing Bridge Sunday.

Sheriff John Sanner identified the 21-year-old woman as Hannah Pauline Udvig from St. Cloud. The preliminary investigation shows Udvig either fell or jumped from the bridge. The result of autopsy shows her death is due to injuries consistent with falling on to the ice.

A pedestrian walking saw a body on the ice in the Mississippi River at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday and reported the it to the sheriff’s office. Police located Udvig’s body and sent it to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Officers also found a second body on the rocks in the area, but there is no update about the second person yet. They stated the deceased man appeared to have been there for a substantial amount of time. The two cases are not related.

Investigators ask anyone who has been near the bridge at about 1 a.m. Sunday should call the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office at 320-251-4240.
