Select Minnesota farms have been recognized as 2016 Century Farms, including some in Benton and Stearns Counties.

The Minnesota State Fair says farms that receive this honor must be family owned for at least 100 years and operated on 50 or more acres of land.

This year 134 farms have been named including: Daniel and Debbie Hennek of Foley, Fuechtmann Farm in Melrose, Pierce Farms in Pennock, and Simon Farm of St. Joseph.

Century Farm families receive a commemorative sign and a certificate signed by the Minnesota State Fair, Farm Bureau presidents and Gov. Mark Dayton.

More than 10,000 farms have been honored since 1976.
