Archived: Benton County Residents Warned Of IRS Scam

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam involving people posing as IRS agents.

Chief Deputy Troy Heck says criminals have been impersonating IRS agents, calling Benton County residents and demanding money. Heck says victims are told they owe the IRS money and that a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The victims are then lead to believe that the only way to resolve the issue is to send money or provide banking information over the phone.

Heck warns the IRS never makes phone calls to anyone who may owe back taxes and will never collect money over the phone.

He warns that everyone should be very skeptical of anyone contacting them for money or personal information.
