Archived: Billboard Campaign To Launch In The Search For Jacob Wetterling

The search for a missing St. Joseph boy continues with a billboard campaign 25 years after his disappearance.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children along with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI will be launching a new attempt to reignite public awareness in the Jacob Wetterling abduction case.

Wetterling, his brother and a friend were biking around their St. Joseph home on October 22, 1989, when a masked gunman approached the boys. The gunman let the other two boys go, but not Jacob. He has been missing ever since.

The billboard campaign will include six billboards donated by Lamar Advertising Company and will be placed around the area where Jacob went missing. They will include a picture of Jacob at age 11 and an age progression photo. The billboards will also encourage anyone with information to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST.

The campaign will officially launch Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Stearns County Law Enforcement Center.
