Archived: Cigarette Butt Believed to Have Started Grass Fire in St. Wendel Township
Firefighters were called to a grass fire in St. Wendel Township on Wednesday afternoon.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says deputies received a fire report from residents on 360th Street just before 6 p.m. They said the fire was burning out of control on the north ditch of the area near a high line pole and spread into a swamp. The St. Stephen Fire Department was called and successfully put out the fire.
The cause of fire is believed to be a cigarette butt thrown out on the roadway. Sanner says the public is urged not to discard their cigarette butts onto any roadway.
