ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) – A jury is set to hear closing arguments early next week in the murder trial of a 40-year-old man charged with killing a Mendota Heights police officer.
The St. Cloud Times reports the Stearns County jurors will be sequestered until they reach a verdict after hearing closing arguments Monday morning. The defense rested its case Thursday after Brian Fitch Sr. announced he was waiving his right to testify at trial.
Fitch is charged with first-degree murder in the July 30, 2014 shooting of officer Scott Patrick. Prosecutors allege Fitch fatally shot Patrick after he pulled the suspect’s vehicle over in West St. Paul.
Police say Fitch was involved in a shootout with officers before his arrest.
