Archived: Cokato Woman Killed In A Head-On Collision On Highway 12 Wednesday
A Cokato woman died in a head-on collision in Wright County on Highway 12 Wednesday night.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 40-year-old Mayla Macon and 30-year-old Dusting Helget of Cokato were traveling westbound on Highway 12 and died as a result of a multi-vehicle crash. Twenty-four-year-old Michael Steer of Waverly was driving in his pickup in the wrong direction in the eastbound lane, instead of westbound, which was the right direction.
Steer then struck Helget leading to the collision. Helget’s vehicle was then turned around and hit another vehicle driven by 65-year-old Carol Jahnke of South Haven.
Helget received serious injuries and his passenger, Macon, died in the accident. Steer also suffered non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities suspect alcohol was a factor in this accident.
