ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud Crush girls soccer team fell by a 2-1 score to Moorhead on Thursday night. The game was a back-and-forth battle, until Quinn Erickson’s goal for the Spuds with 7:33 left proved to be the difference.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, as the Crush put three shots on goal to the Spuds two. Kinze Johnson made all three saves for Moorhead, including a few high danger stops, while Reeghan Stevens turned aside both Moorhead attempts.
After a scoreless 40 minutes, it would take just over two minutes into the second half for the scoring to start. Leah Loegering tapped home a pass by the right post to make it 1-0 Moorhead.
Just 2:07 later, however, the Crush would answer on a beautiful free kick strike by Brooklyn Pollinder. From around twenty yards out, Pollinder found the upper corner for the equalizer.
The intensity ratcheted up as the game progressed into the final stages. That would set the stage for the Erickson go-ahead goal, as she pushed the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to put the Spuds up 2-1.
The Crush are now 5-7 on the year, and 3-4 in conference play. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, as St. Cloud travels to face Fergus Falls. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
