The St. Cloud Police department has released information on the citations and arrests surrounding the first few days of the fall semester at St. Cloud State University. Of the 137 people who were cited, only 39% are current students at the university. Eleven of those cited were booked into the Stearns County Jail.

Commander Jeff Oxton says this is nearly a 40% decline in the total number of citations issued compared to 2014, which had a total of 223 citations. Oxton says the high level of staffing and enforcement efforts during the day of move-in through the following weekend, with a focus on evening hours, was helpful. SCSU officials and police say they contacted 252 residences through neighborhood prevention walks near campus and connected with more than 3,200 people. They welcomed students and informed them of city ordinances and safety precautions.

70 citations were issued for underage consumption, 45 for open container on the street or sidewalk as well as 12 loud party citations.

The final statistical summary information for the three-day period of August 20-22 includes the following violations:

Of the 70 under 21 consumption charges, approximately 62 were directed toward the diversion program being administered by the St. Cloud City Attorney’s Office and St. Cloud State University.

St. Cloud Police, in collaboration with St. Cloud State University officials, will continue with increased police presence and enforcement as fall semester continues.
