An elderly Sartell couple were assisted by Stearns County Sheriff Officers after their truck broke through ice on Clearwater Lake and began to sink Tuesday morning.

 

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says officers were sent to Clearwater Lake Tuesday morning in reference to a vehicle that had went through the ice. A deputy  arrived to the scene to see a Ford F-150 truck in about 3 feet of water about 300 yards from the DNR landing.

 

Standing on the roof of the truck was 84-year-old Charles Hansen from Sartell while his wife, 83-year-old Mary Esselman from Sartell was still in the passenger seat. South Haven Rescue arrived and carried Esselman from the truck and assisted Hansen from the roof of the truck.

 

Hansen said he wasn’t familiar with the lake and was meeting friends to fish.
