Archived: Fire Displaced A Tenant And Caused $5500 Damage
A 19-year-old St. Cloud man was arrested after setting an apartment on fire on the south side of St. Cloud on Wednesday afternoon.
St. Cloud Police officer Lieutenant Jeff Oxton says the Fire Department was called to the 1800 block of 16th Street Southeast in connection with a fire. Oxton says a report from the Fire Department shows a fire in a second floor bedroom of the apartment resulted in $ 5500 damage. No injuries were reported during the fire. All the occupants were allowed to go back to their rooms except the once whose room was fired. That person is staying with a relative until the room is repaired.
The report indicates one of the tenants smelled smoke and was able to put out the fire before the arrival of firefighters. It is believed the fire is arson and Dragon Matthew Wood-Hillman is identified as the suspect. Oxton says officers were able to locate and arrest Hillman on Thursday afternoon at 1725 Kilian Boulevard. He was taken to the Sherburne County Jail and waiting for court on the charges of 1st Degree Arson.
