Archived: Former Richmond Mayor Arrested On Felony Theft Charges

A former Central Minnesota mayor has been arrested in connection to money missing from a local baseball team.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says deputies arrested 42-year-old Scott Kron of Richmond Wednesday afternoon after months of investigation linked him to the issue.

Sanner says the Richmond baseball team reported an undisclosed amount of money was missing from their team’s bank account back in May after a series of charitable gambling events. At that time Kron was the captain of the baseball team and the mayor of Richmond. He was identified as a person of interest early in the case.

Kron had stepped down from his position as mayor in June, citing personal reasons.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Alcohol and Gambling Division in the conduction of this investigation.

Kron was booked and released from the Stearns County Jail on charges of felony theft and misconduct of a public officer or employee.

Sanner says the matter will be turned over the to the Stearns County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
