College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University will honor the founder of Red Mass in its 14th annual celebration this weekend.

The Honorable Elizabeth Haden is a retired district court judge in Minnesota’s Seventh Judicial District and alumna of the university. She will receive the Fidelis Apparitor Award this year which is given to people who have been good servants of the law.

Hayden is a 1968 CSB graduate with a degree in social work. She received her law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law and served as assistant Stearns County attorney in St. Cloud. She was also the chair of the Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committee on General Rules of Practice.

Founded in 2002 by Haden, Red Mass recognizes the important work of judges, attorneys, students of law, policy makers and civic leaders. Its tradition dates back to Middle Ages and is celebrated in Washington D.C., Paris, Toronto and other large cities around the world.

Red Mass will begin at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Benedict’s Monastery Saturday. Haden will receive her award following the service in the Gorecki Center on campus.
