Archived: Holdingford Allows Golf Carts On City Streets

Stearns County has granted the City of Holdingford the right to drive golf carts on county roads within the city.

The new ordinance passed in May by the County Board of Commissioners allows golf carts along roads within the city where the speed limit is 30 miles per hour or less. With the ordinance approval, cities may request to the Board to have their own ordinance in place to allow golf carts on its city streets.

Golf carts will now be allowed on County Roads 9, 17, and 62 in the city portions of Holdingford. All of these roads have a speed limit of 30 miles per hour or less. Holdingford joins St. Joseph, Albany and Melrose as cities with their own golf cart ordinances.

As a driver of a golf cart, you have the same rights as an operator of any other vehicle. Headlights, taillights and turn signals must be used if driving the golf cart before sunrise or after sunset.

Yearly permits are required on all golf carts and may be purchased at the Stearns County License Center with a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
