ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Huskies Men’s Soccer team hosted Purdue Northwest on Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium. The Huskies fell 2-1 in their first GLIAC game of the season.
Purdue Northwest came out of the gates firing, with Gianluca Franco scoring in the fourth minute to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore standout Landon Potts added another goal in the 13th minute, putting Purdue Northwest up 2-0.
The Lions took that two-goal lead into halftime, but the Huskies came out of the locker room with better energy in the second half.
St. Cloud State got on the board in the 59th minute when King Dwumah Acheampong scored his first goal of the season off an assist from the hometown hero Gavin Gaetz, cutting the Lions’ lead to 2-1.
The Huskies controlled possession for most of the second half and created multiple chances to tie the game. However, they couldn’t find the equalizer as Purdue Northwest held on for the 2-1 win.
The loss drops St. Cloud State to 2-4-0 on the season and 0-1 in GLIAC play. They’ll be back in action this Sunday as they face UW-Parkside at 12:00 p.m.
