Husky Volleyball Advances to Chamionship

ST. PAUL, MN –The St. Cloud State Huskies took down No. 2 Wayne State 3-1 on Friday night, winning by set scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-27, and 25-15.

St. Cloud opened the match strongly, taking the first set 25-19 after controlling the pace early. The second set looked like it might go the Wildcats’ way when Wayne State built a late 21-18 lead, but the Huskies pushed back with a big run and stole the set 26-24.

Wayne State responded in the third. The Wildcats fought off multiple set points from St. Cloud and edged out a 27-25 win to stay alive. St. Cloud did not did not waste time getting back in the drivers seat, as the Huskies dominated the fourth set and closed it out 25-15, sealing the 3-1 victory.

Shelby Kimm led the Huskies with 19 kills, followed closely by Abby Wachal with 16 and Emilie Planert with 15. St. Cloud’s defense was huge all night, highlighted by Laurin Hamann’s 38 digs. Wayne State was powered by Delaney Miller, who finished with 24 kills.

The win sends St. Cloud State to the NSIC championship game Saturday against Concordia St. Paul
