An ice fisherman found a stolen truck in Mayhew Lake in Benton County last Monday.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says deputies received a call from an angler who discovered the submerged truck. The angler saw the truck when he lowered a camera in an ice hole to see if there were any fish in the area.

The truck was 12 feet underwater about 100 yards north of the public access from the west shore of the lake.

Divers from the Stearns and Benton Dive Teams searched for the truck and the area around it and concluded it was empty and didn’t find any other valuable evidence.

A registration on the license plate shows the truck was reported missing in March of 2000 from Graham Township. It was successfully removed from the water Thursday, January 14.

Sheriff Heck says the area around the ice hole has been marked with barrier tape. He recommends people fishing in the area to be careful while venturing out.
