A woman who was sought by local law enforcement is being charged with second degree murder after being arrested in Kentucky.

The Stearns County Attorney’s Office has charged 38-year-old Lisa May Kearney in the death of her father, 66-year-old Jeffrey Eugene Schilling of St. Cloud. She was found and arrested in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday.

The complaint against Kearney says the charge stems from an assault that authorities believed happened on January 1 or 2 in a home located at 335 21st Avenue North.  St. Cloud Police were called there on January 4 for a welfare check by a concerned neighbor who could see a man on a couch with a blanket over him, not moving.

Schilling’s body was found the couch in the home, he died from head injuries. The complaint says blood spatter was on the wall and ceiling and had pooled near the victim’s head. Police found a short handled maul near his body. 

Kearney was living with her father and fled the state and they discovered his missing pick-up truck at the Minneapolis airport.

When she was arrested in Kentucky authorities found her father’s computer tablet, wallet and keys with her. She appeared in court in Louisville Wednesday and refused to waive extradition back to Minnesota. Kearney is being held on $250,000 bail and is still in custody. Stearns County has begun formal extradition proceedings, which may take up to 60 days or longer to complete.
