Archived: Local Election Results Are In For St. Cloud Area
Local election results are in! St. Cloud and Stearns County voters followed the wave of support for Republican candidates that swept the nation. Here are some local results in central Minnesota:
The Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon reports Republican incumbent Jim Knoblach defeated DFL challenger Zachary Dorholt in Minnesota District 14B, getting 51 percent of the vote to Dorholt’s 48 percent.
Tama Theis is heading back to St. Paul as the Republican State Representative for District 14A. She beat Democratic challenger Aric Putnam with 10,961 votes to his 9,057.
The State Senator from District 14 will be Republican Jerry Relph. He defeated DFL Candidate Dan Wolgamott with 49 percent of the vote. Libertarian Candidate Steve Zielberg received an overall 2,023 votes. This is the seat that was vacated by John Peterson.
The St. Cloud City Council will see very little change—Carol Lewis, George Hontos and Jeff Goerger all kept their council members at large seats. St. Cloud City Council’s Steve Laraway won in special election for ward 2.
In referendum voting for School District 742, there was support for $104 million for a new Technical High School. The vote passed by a slim margin of 50.9 percent. The second referendum question, asking for nearly $39 million in bond funding to renovate Apollo High School failed, also by a small margin.
Tom Emmer will return to D.C. as Minnesota’s 6th District Congressman. The Republican soundly defeated David Snyder with 65 percent of the vote.
Finally, in the presidential race in Stearns County specifically, Donald Trump and Mike Pence received 47,618 votes to Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine’s 25,575 votes.
