Archived: Marijuana Found After Traffic Stop Near St. Cloud Tuesday

A St. Cloud man was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to sell and driving violations Tuesday morning.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says a deputy was patrolling in the area of Quebecor Road and 10th Street Northeast at 2 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle driving into the area and parking for a long time.

After following the car the deputy noticed equipment violations and pulled over the driver. The deputy smelled marijuana inside the car. 22-year-old Dominique Chaney of St. Cloud admitted to smoking marijuana after the deputy saw flakes of the drug on his shirt.

A search of the vehicle found two potato chip cans with fake bottoms filled with 38 packages of marijuana. Chaney also had $1,500 in cash. Chaney was taken to Benton County Jail where he is waiting for his first court appearance.

Sauk Rapids Police Department assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
