Archived: Minnesota’s Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff In Honor of Deputy Sandberg

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Gov. Mark Dayton has ordered all U.S. and Minnesota state flags be flown at half-staff to honor a sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty.

That executive order is in effect Friday from sunrise to sunset. A funeral for Aitkin County Deputy Steven Sandberg will be held Friday at Aitkin High School. Sandberg was a 24-year veteran of the sheriff’s department and was fatally shot while monitoring a domestic violence defendant at St. Cloud Hospital last Sunday.

Sandberg was also a volunteer firefighter for 17 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
