Archived: MnDOT To Increase Speeds On MN Roads In Next Few Weeks.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced they will increase speed limits on over 300 miles of highways throughout Minnesota in the next few weeks.

The speed increases are a part of a study being done by MnDOT to examine the posted speed limits of all two-lane highways that have a speed limit of 55 mph.

Assistant State Traffic Safety Engineer Julie Whitcher says a speed study gives MnDOT the opportunity to review speed limits on all 55 mph roads in Minnesota and identify the ones that can support a higher speed limit without compromising safety.

Roads in central Minnesota that will see increases include Highway 23, 55 and 18. New speed limits are effective as soon as new signs are posted.
