Archived: Paynesville Man Officially Charged With Murdering Grandparents

The Stearns County Prosecuter’s Office has formally charged Gregory Allen Scheel from Paynesville.

The Stearns County Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Scheel is charged with two counts of intentional murder in the second degree for the deaths of his grandparents 93-year-old Wilbert and 80-year-old Gloria Scheel. Gregory Scheel has bail set at $3,000,000 unconditional or $1,500,000 with conditions.

The prosecuter’s complaint says Scheel bound Wilbert’s arms and legs and placed a plastic bag over his head. Gloria had an electrical cord wrapped around her neck and a lens of her glasses missing. Both grandparents were covered with a section of carpet. The car smelled of gasoline and portions of the inside of the car were charred.

Scheel’s next court hearing is set for April 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stearns County Court.
