Backstages: What the Zine?

In this KVSC original, Johnny takes us through the wild world of zines.

As far back as the 1930s, DIY creatives have been printing and handing out their own local magazines about everything from music to activism to science fiction. Even in the 2020s, zines continue to make big impacts in a world starting to feel the effects of constant screentime.

Johnny takes us through a grab bag of zines from throughout the Twin Cities, as well as talks with the folks behind Tumbling Rock, one of the fastest growing music zines in Minneapolis today.

Issues of Tumbling Rock drop once a month, and can be found for free in places like Klash Drumshop, Pilllar Forum, Underground Music Cafe, and more. You can find them on Instagram.

Backstages is brought to you with support from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, and by KVSC listeners like you.
