We knew it couldn’t be long after the winter season retreats that the next season will hit Central Minnesota…road construction season.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says work on Interstate 94 from Rogers to St. Michael resumed Monday. Motorists may encounter brief shoulder or lane closures during non-rush hours as workers and equipment will be setting up, but most of the work will take place off the roadway until later this spring.

In late March or early April, drivers will see narrowed lanes, temporary ramps and traffic crossovers. Additional information will be released in advance of these activities.
 

The work is part of the I-94 Corridors of Commerce project in Rogers and St. Michael. The project will:

· Add a third lane to westbound I-94 between Highway 101 and Highway 241

· Add an auxiliary lane to eastbound I-94 between Highway 101 and Highway 241

· Extend the deceleration lane from westbound I-94 to Highway 101

· Improve the I-94 bridges spanning the Crow River

· Construct a noise barrier

· Make other improvements while lanes are closed for construction

When complete in late 2015, the project will reduce congestion and improve the efficiency of the transportation system.
