A Royalton woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation after a car crash on County Road 1 Friday afternoon.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says deputies responded to the accident at 39122 County Road 1 just after 5:30 p.m. Witnesses say 66-year-old Martha Elizabeth Loften was driving north when she lost control of her car and crossed over into oncoming traffic. She then corrected herself and swerved into the east ditch hitting a mailbox and a telephone utility box. Loften’s car ended up on the road blocking both lanes of traffic.

As a result of the crash, area telephones were not working. Century Link was able to resolve the outage.

No other injuries were reported. Authorities suspect Loften experienced a medical issue while driving.

St. Stephen Rescue, Sartell Police and Collins Brothers Towing assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
