Archived: Sartell Tries Electronic Registration At Two Precincts On Election Day

Two voting precincts in Stearns County tried electronic check-in and registration on Election Day.

The county says voters who preregistered could be searched in an electronic database. Election judges had the ability to search someone’s name, or people could swipe a driver’s license or state-issued ID card. Once registration was verified, a receipt was printed for the voter to sign.

Even citizens who chose same-day registration could sign up electronically by swiping a driver’s license or asking an election judge.

The electronic system was set up in Sartell’s precincts 3 and 6. Technicians were on-site all day to help with any technical problems.

Auditor-Treasurer Randy Schreifels says, “The experience gained in Sartell this year will help us as we hope to expand the use of electronic rosters in the larger cities of Stearns County in 2018.”

Electronic rosters are already being used in the Twin Cities area.
