Archived: Sauk Rapids Man Arrested On Charges Of Felony Theft Late Last Week
A Sauk Rapids man was arrested on charges of felony theft in St. Cloud Friday.
Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says deputies received a theft report from Warnert Racing on October 23. Investigators found that automotive batteries, electronic items and tools were taken from the trailer, which was parked outside the office on Quebecor Road Northeast.
A lieutenant from the sheriff’s office reviewed security cameras which captured a photo of the suspect- similar to 39-year-old Leonard Berg.
Further investigation shows Berg sold batteries, similar to the ones taken from the trailer, to a local metal recycling center.
Deputies then carried out a search warrant at Berg’s home where they found more items thought to be stolen from Warnet Racing. In addition, they recovered a generator believed to be taken from the St. Cloud Salvation Army.
Berg was arrested and taken to Benton County Jail with bail set at $10,000.
