One St. Cloud man is in custody after threatening to hit a couple over the head with a baseball bat last week.

The St. Cloud Police Department says a 22-year-old man and woman were walking to their car just before midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they were approached by a man dragging a baseball bat. Phillip Ryan Keys, 30, asked the couple if they had ever been hit in the head with a bat before. Then he proceeded to raise the bat above his head.

The male victim, who has a permit to carry, pulled out his handgun, pointed it at Keys and told him to drop the bat. Keys threw it and walked away.

Police were called and were able to find Keys in the area.He was arrested, brought to the Stearns County Jail, and charged with 2nd degree assault and threats of violence.
