Archived: St. Cloud Man Charged with Attempted Murder After Allegedly Stomping on Victim’s Head

The Stearns County attorney is charging a St. Cloud man with second degree murder in an gruesome assault of a another man.

28-year-old Solomon Edward Roundtree was charged Thursday in district court and is being held on $1.5 million unconditional bail or $750,000 bail with conditions.

The charges against Roundtree stem from an assault that happened on Tuesday morning in the 300 block of 37th Avenue North in St. Cloud. A witness saw Roundtree stomp on the victim’s head with full force approximately seven or eight times as he was knocked unconscious on the floor. The witness told investigators the suspect also yelled he wanted the victim to die as he was stomping on him. The victim lived in the same apartment building of Roundtree.

Police found the victim bleeding from his ears and significant amounts of blood on his face. He remains in intensive care and on a respirator at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The judge in the case has ordered an evaluation of Roundtree’s mental competency so the criminal proceeding has been suspended until the evaluation is completed.

Roundtree also has a pending 5th degree assault charge against him from an similar altercation with the victim in November of 2014. A No Contact Order was issued against Roundtree at that time.
