ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) – A St. Cloud man accused of fatally stabbing his mother is competent to stand trial.
The determination was made in Stearns County District Court where 53-year-old Dean Friese is charged with first- and second-degree murder in the 2013 death of Lois Arlene Omeara.
Court records show Friese has a history of mental illness that includes multiple civil commitments. Defense attorneys asked Judge Frank Kundrat to hold off on determining that Friese wasn’t suffering from mental illness at the time of the crime.
