Archived: St. Cloud State Reads Stage Version of Novel for 80th Anniversary

St. Cloud State University is one of many universities, regional theatres, and communities who will be reading a very timely stage adaptation of a classic novel.

The newest stage version of the novel “It Can’t Happen Here”, by Sinclair Lewis, will be read at St. Cloud State on October 24th. These readings commemorate the 80th anniversary of the novels stage debut.

The novel was written in 1935 by Sinclair Lewis, and follows a man who becomes United States President by promising to return the country to greatness.

Carol Cooley, organizer of the readings at St. Cloud State, says, “’It Can’t Happen Here’ is so on point with this election, it is equal parts thrilling and appalling. It’s not just pacing the election, its predicting its potential aftermath.”

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. next Monday on the Performing Arts Center’s Arena Stage at St. Cloud State University. KVSC will be recording a podcast of the readings.
